Welcome to the Canadian Masters Athletics
Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame has been set up by the Canadian Masters
Athletic Association (the “CMAA”) with the objective
of paying tribute to members of the CMAA who have made significant
contributions to the CMAA, either as athletes or as executives,
administrators or officials. In this way, the CMAA wishes
to bring to the attention of its members, and the athletic
community at large, the many talented masters athletes, and
the many dedicated masters officials, who have contributed
greatly to masters athletics in Canada over the years.
After the founding of the Hall of Fame by the Executive of
the CMAA in 2002, the first members were appointed that year,
with the intention that a stated number of members be appointed
in each subsequent year. Appointments to the Hall are made
in one of two categories, designated as “Athletes”
and “Executives”.
Because 1972 is considered to be the genesis of the CMAA
(see “About the CMAA”
on this web site), activities and accomplishments beginning
in that year are given emphasis in the consideration of nominees
for the Hall. We therefore make an effort to “reach
into the past” in appointing members to the Hall, particularly
during the first four years of operation, when one of our
criteria is that a nominee must have been active during the
earlier years of the CMAA. Additionally, there will be a ten-year
“phase-in” period, so that the full complement
of members will not be in place until the end of the year
2011. As worthy candidates for the Hall appear on the scene
after that time, provision has been made for regular additions
to the Hall of Fame, in smaller numbers.
The Hall of Fame does not have a physical home – currently,
its only home is here, on the CMAA web site. We hope to be
able to present enough information here about each member
of the Hall, so that the special talents and other qualities
of each member are clear to you.
