Canadian Masters Mourn Death of Ian Hume
March 28, 2006 – The Canadian Masters community mourns the loss of Ian Hume, who died today, at the age of 91. At the time of his death, Ian still held 32 Canadian records in various running, jumping and throwing disciplines, at ages from M60 to M80. As part of a 74-year career in various sports, including representing Canada internationally as an athlete and an administrator, Ian began competing in Masters track and field in September, 1974, in the M60 age group. In 7 World Masters Championships, between 1975 and 1989, he won a total of 29 medals – 13 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze. He also set more than 40 World Masters age group records, in 9 different events, from 1974 to 1999. He was named to the Canadian Masters Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002.
